Accurate diagnosis of autoimmune diseases remains a major clinical challenge due to heterogeneous symptoms, overlapping manifestations, and non-specific laboratory findings. Precise detection of disease-specific autoantibodies is essential for effective diagnosis. High-quality, well-characterized antigens form the foundation of reliable serological assays, enabling sensitive and specific autoantibody detection and thereby improving diagnostic accuracy and clinical decision-making.

An autoimmune disease is a condition that results from an anomalous response of the adaptive immune system, wherein it mistakenly targets and attacks healthy, functioning parts of the body as if they were of foreign origin. Such attacks can affect any part of the body and potentially harm its organs and systems, contributing to a wide range of symptoms.

There are more than 80 known autoimmune conditions. Some target specific organs or tissues, such as the skin, heart or blood vessels. Others are more generalized, affecting multiple tissue or organ systems. Similar or indistinct symptoms can make an accurate diagnosis difficult, time-consuming and stressful.

As most autoimmune diseases are characterized by an excessive self-reactive, antigen-driven immune response, autoantibodies are important serological markers for these group of diseases. Therefore, Virion\Serion is pleased to announce that we are expanding our product portfolio to include antigens for the diagnosis of autoimmune diseases.
