West Nile Virus

West Nile virus (WNV) belongs to the family of Flaviviridae of positive-sense, single-stranded RNA viruses. Birds such as crows and sparrows are the natural reservoirs for this arbovirus, while mosquitoes of the genus Culex, Aedes and Ochlerotatus are the primary vectors that transmit it to humans. WNV infections are usually asymptomatic, but mild cases may include flu-like symptoms, such as fever, headaches, muscle and joint pain, and gastrointestinal issues (West Nile fever). Severe neurological forms such as encephalitis, meningitis, or paralysis are increasing, particularly in the elderly or immunocompromised, potentially leading to death or permanent damage. Serological testing for IgM antibodies is recommended for laboratory confirmation of WNV infection.

We offer two WNV antigens: BA141VSR14 and BA141R01.

BA141VSR14 consists of the ectodomain III (ED3) of the envelope protein E. BA141VSR14 is recombinantly expressed in E. coli and highly purified by His-tag affinity chromatography and suitable for serological testing.

Virion\Serion’s recombinant West Nile Virus Envelope Protein E (WNV gE, BA141R01)is composed of two WNV envelope ectodomain proteins (WNV-80E), which are recombinantly expressed in insect cells and linked together. This linkage results in stable compounds that are structurally and immunologically very similar to the E-dimers found on the surface of native WNV.

Virion\Serion’s recombinant West Nile Virus Envelope Protein E (BA141R01) is optimized for bead-based assays such as CLIA. The protein production in an ISO 13485 certified environment guarantees the expected high quality, traceability and lot-to-lot consistency paired with readily available bulk quantities.
