Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV)

The Epstein–Barr Virus, also called Human Herpesvirus 4 (HHV-4), is one of eight known human herpesvirus types and is one of the most common viruses in humans. It is best known for causing mononucleosis or glandular fever and is also associated with certain forms of cancer. The recombinant antigens p18 and p23 (capsid), p54 and p138 (early antigens) and EBNA1 (nuclear antigen) are produced in E. coli and purified by affinity chromatography in the presence of urea. Purity of ≥ 95 % is confirmed via SDS-PAGE (Coomassie staining). The antigens are suitable for the detection of IgG and IgM antibodies against EBV. The main antigen for the detection of IgM antibodies is the capsid antigen p18.
